James' StoryJames Patrick O'Connell was a loving son, brother, grandson, godfather, cousin, and uncle with literally hundreds of close friends. He was a high school state tennis champion for St. Francis de Sales high school in Toledo, Ohio and an all-conference tennis player three times for the University of Dayton. After graduation from UD he had a successful business career, loved to travel, play tennis and golf, and spend time with his family and friends. James sadly ended his life on February 20, 2021. In his memory, James' family, friends, business associates, teammates, coaches, and teachers have established The James Patrick O'Connell Legacy of Love Foundation is a non-profit 501-c3 fund. Our mission is to help those in unhealthy relationships successfully navigate the mental health challenges these relationships cause so that we can prevent another tragedy like this in the future. Every dollar raised by the JPO Foundation will go to nonprofit mental health providers that focus on this epidemic and the weaknesses in our current system of providing meaningful, timely help. Although we are devastated to not have him here with us, we find solace that he has finally found peace. Through the JPO Foundation, his beautiful spirit will live on through all his family and friends forever and make a difference in the lives of others who are struggling. We know he is looking down and is thrilled that we are making a positive impact in our community in his name. We hope you will join us on this journey for James.
