Our family has been humbled by the support we have received from his hundreds of friends, coworkers, classmates, teammates, and acquaintances from his much too short life among us. As a tribute to James’ memory, we would like to ask you to make a "My Promise to James” today in his honor by taking the lessons he taught us and make them a reality in your own life and others as well.
 
We believe that James would have wanted us to help others by: speaking up when you see somebody being disrespected; discourage harmful and hurtful rhetoric; check in on each other regularly to see how their lives are going; encourage others to seek help if they think they need it; be there to provide help to anyone in need; speak up if you observe a relationship as unhealthy; remind loved ones that healthy relationships are built through open communication, listening, being heard, working through disagreements, forgiveness, mutual intimacy, trust, and respect.
 
We would sincerely appreciate it if you would take a minute to make such a “promise,” or special lesson he personally gave you, to James. Occasionally we ask that you take a look at "Your Promise to James,” continue to try to fulfill that “promise,” pray for your friends and relatives who have left us and remember James for the beautiful person he was.
